U.S. National Bank Building in Downtown…..
I love architecture a lot, I love to go downtown and enjoy all the old buildings in the city. I did just that this morning when I went to g see the Rose Festival Fleet.
I took photos of the U.S. National Bank Building! Awesome beauty!
This was the 13th bank to open in Portland and it was incorporated on November 10, 1890. The architect for this building was A.E. Doyle who was the West Coast’s leading architect! The columns stand 54 feet high.
In the interior, marble came from Italy, Hungary and Belgium. The beautiful bronze doors were designed by Arvard Fairbanks who was a former professor of sculpture at the University of Oregon.
I wished that homes and building were still made today with such beauty and detail!

U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Waeshce
I went downtown to take photos of the Rose Festival Fleet and got a treat of watching the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Waesche leaving port! This is second of 8 National Security Cutters and it is 418 feet long with a top speed of 28 knots and a range of 12,000 nautical miles.
It has a flight deck and hangars capable of housing two multi-mission helicopters and has the most advanced command, control and communications equipment.
I wished I could have taken a tour of this vessel! I am fond of the Coast Guard and also the Air Force because of family members who served in those Armed Forces!

1953 Movie Western, Shane……
I just watched an old western movie! This was released on April 23, 1953 by Paramount. Shane is a drifter who rides into the tiny homesteading community and is invited to stay by a farming family. He works for them as a rand hand. A cattle rancher tries to get rid of the homesteaders and Shane must return to his roots.
Shane is played by Alan Ladd: he was born Sept. 3, 1913 and died in Jan. 1964
The beautiful Jean Arthur played the ranchers wife. Wow, she was born Oct 17, 1900 and died June 19, 1991 at the age of 90. Shane was her last film performance.
I love how people dressed and wore their hair in those days!!! It is so much fun to see how people looked in different eras!

Red, White and Blue Bear Almost Done…..
Tomorrow all I have to do is the legs and arms and then assemble! I have done quite a bit today and my eyes are tired so now time to go watch some of my favorite shows!

Portland’s Rose Festival Fleet…..
I went downtown this morning to take some photos of our Rose Festival Fleet near the Steel Bridge! I got the treat of watching a United State Coast Guard ship leaving beneath the Steel Bridge!
Looks beautiful against our downtown skyline!
I took this photo walking along the lower deck of the Steel Bridge! Awesome ships!
I love this U.S. Coast Guard ship! I am partial to the Coast Guard as my husband served in it! I also am partial to the Air Force as I have had several family members serve in the Air Force!
I am so glad that I went down town to get photos! I will post more later in different posts. I took 60 photos!

Cute Brown Bear……
I just finished this cute brown bear! I am also working on another 4th of July bear. With that one I am using 3 strands of yarn so I had to take a break from it because it is hard on the hands sometimes.
The effect is really cool though when using multiple colors!
